Happy Birthday, Star Resonance: Blue Protocol Player Count One Year Later
It launched to more than 83,000 players on Steam. A year on, we looked at where the anime MMORPG stands, and at what the numbers can't see.
Light the candles, adventurer. Blue Protocol: Star Resonance turns one on October 9, and every birthday deserves an honest card.
The anime MMORPG from Bokura and Bandai Namco launched on October 9, 2025, on PC and mobile, with cross-play between them. More than 5 million players had pre-registered, and launch week showed it.
How big was the launch?
Huge, by Steam's measure. Star Resonance peaked at 83,331 players on Steam in October 2025 and averaged 38,407 across its first month, according to SteamCharts.
Where is it now?
When we checked on September 30, 183 people were playing it on Steam. Over the last 30 days, SteamCharts puts its Steam average at 355.
The slide came fast, then slowed. Here's how many people were online on Steam at an average moment:
- November 2025: 12,961
- December 2025: 3,807
- March 2026: 1,455
- August 2026: 558
What the numbers can't see
Steam is only part of this story. Star Resonance runs on phones too, and phone players share the same world, so the game can be busier than its Steam line suggests.
Still, the drop from launch is steep. It's a familiar shape for big free-to-play launches: a giant first month, then the players who truly stay. Year two will need a reason for the rest to come home.
