Promises Kept, Tenno: Warframe Player Count a Year After TennoCon 2025
Last summer, Digital Extremes promised a new chapter and a trip to Tau. We checked what arrived, and what it did to the player count.
Check your Arsenal, Tenno. Last summer, at TennoCon 2025, Digital Extremes laid out its plans: a new story chapter, The Old Peace, before the end of 2025, and a voyage to the Tau system in 2026.
So, did they deliver? And did the Origin System show up for it?
The Old Peace arrived on time
The Old Peace launched on December 10, 2025, on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and iOS. It brought Uriel, the 63rd Warframe, a survival mode called The Perita Rebellion, and the game's first bayonet weapon, the Vinquibus.
Players came running. Warframe averaged 86,045 players on Steam in December 2025, with a peak of 173,377, according to SteamCharts. That's within sight of its all-time high of 181,509, set in July 2021.
Where is it now?
When we checked on September 30, 52,657 Tenno were playing on Steam. September's Steam average so far is 54,756, well above the 39,492 it averaged in September 2025.
For a game that turned thirteen this year, that's a remarkable place to be.
Tau is next
At TennoCon 2026 in July, Digital Extremes revealed Warframe: Tau, a new Star Chart in the Tau system, due free on all platforms this year. It comes with:
- Brysko, a noir detective Warframe whose inner monologue is voiced by Matthew Mercer
- Portau, Warframe's first card game, built on poker
- Fornax, a Sentient ring city run by a crime boss called The Hunra
TennoCon also named this fall's update, Iceblade of Narin, with a new ice Warframe and a rework for Banshee. The Old Peace landed on time. Tau is the next promise to keep.
