How to Build an MMO Guild Discord Server: Channels, Roles and Bots
A good guild Discord makes it easy for a new member to find the rules, pick their role and join the next run. This layout works for most free-to-play MMO guilds; trim it to fit yours.
Create the server
- In Discord, press the + in your server list and choose Create My Own.
- Name it after your guild and add your guild's logo.
- In Server Settings, turn on Community if you want welcome screens, onboarding questions and an announcements channel others can follow.
Channels most guilds need
- #welcome and #rules: who you are, what you expect, how to apply.
- #announcements: officers only, for news and schedules.
- #roles: members pick their class, role and time zone.
- #general and #off-topic: everyday chat.
- #lfg: quick groups for dungeons and dailies.
- #raids or #events: sign-up posts only.
- #builds and #guides: pinned resources for your game.
- #screenshots and #clips: the fun stuff.
- Voice: a few rooms such as Raid, Dungeon, Chill and AFK.
Roles and permissions
- Guild Master: full control. Keep Administrator to one or two people.
- Officer: can manage messages, events and members, but not the server itself.
- Member: the default after joining the guild in game.
- Recruit or Guest: can read and chat in a few channels while they settle in.
- In Server Settings > Safety Setup, require two-factor authentication for moderator actions.
Bots worth adding
- A sign-up bot such as Raid-Helper or Sesh for raids and events (our Raid-Helper guide).
- Carl-bot for reaction roles, so members can pick a class in #roles.
- MEE6 or Dyno for welcome messages and moderation.
- Ticket Tool for private guild applications.
- Statbot to see when your members are most active. See the best Discord bots for MMO guilds.
Get your guild found
Add your guild's Discord to its game's Discord page on F2PMMO. Once a moderator checks it, it appears with live member counts and can rank on our guild recruitment list.
